Pre-Calculus A Reflection

In reviewing your course reflections, what stands out to you in your learning/growth in regard to the readings (mathematical careers and application of mathematics) that you had after each test and how do they connect to one or more of the Profile of a Graduate’s “Cs” (CHARACTER, CITIZENSHIP, COLLABORATION, COMMUNICATION, CREATIVITY, and CRITICAL THINKING)?

  1. Which two careers in mathematics sounded the most interesting to you? Why?
  2. What did you learn from readings on the different mathematical careers?
  3. How did the readings change your view of mathematics?

Reflection:

The two careers in mathematics that sounded the most interesting to me were Software Development, and Game Design and Development. I think that it would be cool to develop software for computers and learn how it works. I also think that it would be cool to go into Game Design and Development because I enjoy games and I also would love to be involved in the programming or coding of a game. One of the things that I learned about the different mathematical careers is that in today’s age, computer science and programming are used in a lot of things now that the internet is so prevalent in our society. I also learned that it takes a lot of different skills for these types of jobs, such as Communication, lots of mathematical knowledge, science, among other things. The readings changed my views on math because they showed me just how important math is. It is important for your future because even if your field doesn’t require much math education, math also teaches key problem-solving skills that you can use later in your life. These readings also connect to some of the six C’s. One of the C’s that the readings connected to were Communication. When one of the readings was talking about careers, they talked about how important communication is in the field of computer science and lots of other careers involving math. Another one of the C’s that was talked about was Critical Thinking. Critical Thinking is used in math quite heavily as-is, but in mathematical career fields, you need to use a lot of that Critical Thinking skill to be able to solve complex problems. Overall, the readings taught me a lot about the career fields in mathematics, the wide variety of job choices, and all of the unique skills you need to accel in these fields.
