Spanish 4 Reflection – Alex Schoeppner

Alex Schoeppner

During Spanish 4 this semester we learned about 11 famous people, 14 famous places. We also read 24 articles about a variety of topics. These articles were often about news in the Spanish speaking world, but sometimes they were articles about world events. I feel like my sight-reading ability now is much improved compared to when I started even at the beginning of this quarter. My ability to rearrange words from a question and use them to give a complete answer at the beginning of the semester was mediocre at best. My ability to do this now at the end of the semester is also very much improved. I preferred to learn more about people than places or articles. I say this because I like learning about what these different people came up from and what they did to impact the world and other people around them. I think the most challenging topic for me was taking the Spanish words from the articles and translating them out loud in English. I do feel much more comfortable now about reading articles and understand what is being said. Overall I feel like doing all of these things helped improved my Spanish speaking ability greatly and vastly improved my knowledge of Spanish culture, history, and important figures of the past and present.
