Chemistry 1A

In this Chemistry lab, we combined different chemicals in a spot well tray to see what kind of reaction would get. We had to record all the reaction types, even if they were no reaction, to get the most accurate results in the end. We wanted to line up the same chemical in a certain row and not random spots so we could keep track of which chemical is which. My partner (Marissa) and I collaborated together to create more accurate results by watching and making sure that we do the combining correctly. A tactic that we used was that we would line up all the dropper bottles in order with what was on the chart so that we could just keep going faster. We used critical thinking and followed the chart in order to take plenty of pictures for our results.

I also learned how to identify some of the chemical compounds based on looks or smells. This lab showed me that certain compounds (like CO3 and SO4) produce very similar results when combined with certain other compounds. Some challenges I faced during the test that we took on this were that when I try some of the chemicals, they would all be no reaction and that was most of the chemicals when mixed together. If the times weren’t limited, I think I would’ve done better because I could redo some of the compounds to find the correct answer. Overall I really liked this lab because it taught me how different chemicals can mix with each other.
