Drawing Artist Statement

Artwork Statement: Written Statement Components

____ Expressive Qualities: Intention

  • What was your intention in the making of the work in terms of what you wanted to communicate to the viewer or to  yourself?

My intention in the making of my artwork was to communicate through my drawing what career I want to pursue in the future. The career I created my project on is education, specifically in younger age groups, which I did my best to make clear through my drawing.

____Composition: Content and Design Concept

  • What is being seen in the work’s content? Be as detailed and specific as you can in describing what you have included in the image.

In my artwork, you are able to see my name in which each letter is made up of different objects from the education career field. My A is drawn up of two pencils laying together in the shape of an A. My U is made up of a coffee cup. My B is made up of a ruler and an apple put together. For my R I drew a desk lamp. My E was a Scotch tape roll. And finally my Y was a pair of scissors. The background of my drawing was a chalkboard with writing on it, and my border was the alphabet, which is usually seen in elementary school classrooms on the wall bordering the room.

  • Explain your incorporation of the art elements and principles as they relate to the design concept of the work.

In my drawing, I incorporated several elements and principles of art. Some of which include lines and shapes, which is what my letters are ultimately created by. I also used a lot of color, and multiple different colors to complete my project, and through color I was also able to create some contrast within my artwork by using different colors and different shades, and also through color I created value by shading lighter and darker.

____Process and Problem Solving: Personal Decision Making and Process/ Technique/Procedure

  • What personal decision-making did you engage in when making choices about what to include in the art form/subject matter? This might also reflect decisions having to deal with physical conditions that needed to be considered due to the nature of the work.

The personal decision I had to make when creating this project was what type of job I wanted to base my drawing on. I picked a few different careers I was interested in and narrowed it down by thinking of objects from that career that would work well to create the letters for my name.

  • What process/technique/procedure did you use in the creation of your work? Discuss steps, materials and tools that you employed.

When creating my drawing I used several materials such as paper, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, and a ruler. There were also a few steps I went through when creating my artwork such as first brainstorming, second sketching, third coloring and shading.

____Discovery

  •   What did you become aware of while creating the object or after its completion, including connections to other experiences, art history, and the source(s) of your exploration as a part of the discovery process?

In the past, I have done a project similar to this for my mom. In elementary school for Mothers Day, I created one of these drawings for my mom so I was able to connect this learning/project, to the project I had created in the past.
