For English 9A, we read Lord of the Flies and were asked to write a paper about the book using a prompt that we chose. For my paper, I chose the prompt civility vs. savagery. Below is my final paper and my reflection on the paper.

Reflection:
The aspect of my artifact that I am most proud of is creating a strong thesis. I have never really focused on my thesis in the past because we have never learned very much about them. This year however, the thesis was the most important thing in our paper so we had to make sure that it was the best it could be. I had to fix my thesis many times, but I finally made it the best I could and I am proud of it. The aspect of creating this artifact that was the most difficult for me was also the thesis. I was very proud of it once it was finished, but it was challenging for me to create. I struggled with creating a strong thesis that I could use as a foundation for my entire paper. It was hard for me to fit what I was going to say into only one sentence while still making it a strong thesis. I am glad that I struggled with making this thesis because now it will be easier for me to make one in the future. This artifact connects to the Profile of a Graduate through critical thinking and creativity. I used critical thinking while creating this artifact to further develop my analysis and to create strong words to make the overall paper stronger and more arguable. I also used creativity by coming up with ideas to express through my writing. For example, my claim that Golding created the opposing forces of civility and savagery through many different ideas is what I decided to write my paper about. I had to be creative while writing my paper so it would be different from all of the other papers and would stand out from the rest. I plan to take this learning forward when I write future papers. I know that I will have to write many papers in my high school career, and so this paper helped me tremendously. I learned how to write a strong thesis, how to find quotes that support my claim and how to write an analysis that connects back to the quote and my thesis in some way. This paper was definitely beneficial to me because I learned so many things that will help my future papers be even better and more professional.
